On Saturday 22 March a group of South Africans got together at Hope's place for a cup of soup.
Each couple was asked to bring along their favoutite soup as an entry fee.
As usual for South Africans when they get together, there was food in abundance. Apart from the variations in soup, there were various forms of bread and appetising goodies for dessert.
As is the tradition of the "Vroue Landbou Unie" or Women's Agricultural Union, we decided to judge the soups and present a trophy to the winner.
There were three very competent judges who said afterwards that the competition was very stiff, so much so that they could not all agree on a winner.
Apart from having a get-together, the idea was also to shed the winter clothes and get ready for spring.
Two of the judges agreed that the Parsnip & Pear Soup was the winner so the trophy went to Hope Toumishey.
And now everybody rushed to the table to enjoy soups made from parsnip, carrots, vegetables, peas, beans, cheese, ginger abd many more.
We did not only eat, but also did a lot of talking. Much of it was welcoming new Canadians to the fold and sharing backgrounds with them.
We try to accomodate children in our events. Some of the grownups always share games with them.
