Canoe'09
We had the opportunity to treat the South African kayak team to a braai on Friday 7th August.  There was even real boerewors made by local South Africans.

Vicky and Sehne Connell were the hosts for which we cannot thank them enough.  They are always willing and ready to accommodate any event.

Team SA consisted of nine paddlers and two officials and there were seven South Africans.  A number of SAs could not attend due to prior commitments and made their apologies.  We also had an offer of a financial contribution.

We all had a good time which will hopefully help the team to perform just that little extra.

The races start next Thursday, 13th August and end on Sunday 16th.  The team flies back on the 17th departing at 5:45 pm.

We hope to see a few South Africans at the races and also at the airport to say goodbye to them.  Even if you cannot attend any of the races or get to the airport, you can send them a message.  They will really appreciate it.

Even when the rain came down we sat outside under the tree and enjoyed the cameraderie of newly made friends - total strangers to each other a mere week ago.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable time and had the opportunity to exchange anecdotes and lifestyles.

The Canadian South Africans wish Team SA all the best and may they take some gold back home.
